COURT OF CONVOCATION.
YEAR'S WORK REVIEWED. FURNISHING THE COLLEGE. The annual meeting of the Auckland District Court of Convocation was held last evening, the president, Mr. H. J. D. Mahon, presiding over a small attendance. The president announced that the appeal made to graduates to assist in the furnishing of the new college had resulted in £l4O being received. This amount carried a Government subsidy of £1 for £l. A draft of the proposed regulations governing the election of the new council of the University of New Zealand had been received. The regulations appeared to be satisfactory, except for tho fact that it was proposed to hold the election on January 26, when a large number of the electors would be holiday-making. A resolution was passed expressing the opinion that in future years the election should be held early in December. It was decided to instruct the incoming executive to take steps to see that a number of Aucklanders were nominated for seats on the council. In view of the success of the reunion of graduates held during the year it was decided that the function should be repeated annually, and that all former students of thje college and also graduates of other colleges should be invited to attend. The subject of part-time students was introduced bv' Mr. W. A. Gray, hut it was decided to defer discussion of tho matter to a special meeting. Miss Gray referred to the difficulty 'ted to have been experienced by some Rhodes scholars in obtaining positions in their home countries owing to tho unusually long time occupied by their university education in the Dominion and in England. She suggested that Rhodes scholars should be chosen from the secondary schools, thus avoiding the double university course. It was decided to defer discussion of this subject, together with the. method of election of Rhodes scholars, until the special meeting. The following officers were elected: — President, Mr. W. A. Gray; vice-presi-dent, the Rev. Dr. H. Ranston; executive, Dr. Hardie Neil, Brother Fergus, Messrs. W. A. Beattie and D. H. Steen, and Misses Edgerley and M. A. Crookes.
