AUCKLAND TO GISBORNE.

JOURNEY VIA TAURANGA, UNDER TWENTY-FOUR HOURS. NEW TRAIN ARRANGEMENTS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] TAURANGA, Thursday. The need for an alteration in the railway time-table between Tauranga and Taneatua has been apparent for some time and has been stressed particularly by the people of Taneatua. The Public Works Department has now decided to commence a new time-table on November 2. The train will then leave Tauranga on steamer days—Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays—at 7 a.m., and arrive at Taneatua at 11.5 a.m. Assuming that the motor services work in unison, train passengers will then be able to proceed by car to the railhead at Motuhora and join the afternoon train there for Gisborne. This will permit travellers from Auckland to Gisborne via Tauranga to make the journey within 24 hours.

In order to confer the benefit in the reverse way the train will leave Gisborne at an earlier hour than 8.5 a.m. as at present on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, connecting with motor-cars at Motuhora and reaching the railhead at Taneatua at about. 2.15 p.m. The train will leave for Tauranga at' 2.30 p.m., and is scheduled to arrive here at 6.30 p.m., in ample time to permit of connecting with the steamer for Auckland. The new time-table is to be given a trial and the question of its continuance will naturally depend upon the extent to which it is patronised.
