SIR ARTHUR MYERS' BEQUEST.
Sir,—lt was with great interest that I read "Aquatint's" letter in last Saturday's Herald. The suggestion that Sir Arthur Myers' bequest—or half of it—should be spent in buying examples of leading English water-eolourists is a splendid one. What a help and inspiration it would be to those of us who cannot leave New Zealand to study the works of modern water-colour painters, but who struggle along in the dark trying our best to improve. And apart from the student and lovers of art, surely the pubr lie would get more pleasure from good examples of water-colours than from 'the large canvases that have been bought lately, *,hafc give no help to the student. In a young country like this, so far away from the world's galleries, 1 think the student should be considered. Personally, I think the general public of Auckland, the female portion of it, anyway, would far rather see a fashion parade than a good picture, so why not get pictures that would help and interest those who really appreciate art?
