Dr. 11. J. Tillvard F.R.S. (Nelson), and Mrs. Tillyard -are in the Isle of Wight where they have been staying with Professor Pailton, F.R.S. Ever since he came to England Professor Tjllyard. lias been engaged in scientific .research, "particularly in investigating t-ho control of blackberry, ragwort, and other noxious weeds by their natural insect or fungoid enemies. He and Mrs. Tillyard, -have spent the last. two. pionths working at the Institute. Agnonomeque in Paris; at Toulouse;' at the' EuropeaP 'Parasite Laboratory, Hyeres; at '.the Quarantine Laboratory, Mentone; at the Universities of Geneva and Zurich; at the Academy of Sciences, Munich;-and,.also at"Strasbourg and Brussels. They are,.now about to,leave for Denmark in 'continuation of the same' investigations. Dr. Tillyard is compiling a report for presentation to the Cawthron Institute Trustees and the- New Zealand Government. .1. , , v Professor J. Macmillan Brown . leaves this week for Canada on his' way to Vancouver. -Thence he will travel to Japan .to be present at ■ the .Pan.Pacific Conference. Up to last week ,his time was mainly taken 'up with his .book — " Peoples and Problems of the Pacific," reading the proofs and making the. index. He is in excellent health; and spirits-'des-pite the fact that he has been working strenuously in connection with his book for many hours every day. - - Archbishop Julius hopes to remain in England for a few months longer and to return to New Zealand in February; V- His health has considerably improved, and he is much enjoying his visit to the Mother Coantrv.
Mr. T. M. "Wilford, M.P., Will leave on October' 7 for Sydney, via'the Cape, accompanied by Mrs. Wilford. New Zealand .should.be reached on November 23. Miss Tsobel Wilford will remain in London. She is still at the Lyric undefStudying Olga Lindo in "The Best People." The Rev. Hubert Simpson, of Glasgow, who was recently preaching in New Zealand, has accepted a call from London for six months.
Mr. and Mrs. W. T. ITampson (Auckland), are in Glamorganshire staying with the latter's parents at Penarth. JThey expect to bo in London in November", and to spend' some weeks' in the metropolis before returning to Wales for Christmas. They' will lie in the Mother.Country until April. t , f Mr. and Mrs. John Raiue (Epsom), are visiting Devonshire', and they will lie in London for a fortnight before travelling overland to Naples, 'via-. Paris, Venire and Rome, in time to connect With the Oronsay on October 24 on their return journey to New Zealand. While Mr. Raino was on a business trip* to' Germany, which included Leipzig Fair, Mrs. Raino visited relatives in-Northumberland.
Mr. Leslie IT. Busby (Auckland), who is an engineer in the service of.the Canadian Government Merchant Marine, came to London several months ago to study for - his first-class engineer's certificate, which he has just obtained- • ,
