IS IT SNOBBERY?

Sir, —"Indignant Parent" shouJd withdraw his little girl from such a snobbish school as the Diocesan, especially as all the resounding phraseology of his letter leading up to a shot at the Anglican Church makes one assume that he is a Dissenter of the mid-Victorian type nox; happily almost extinct in England," but evidently flourishing in this country. The schools he mentions are mainly for boarders, and are sought to be run on the same lines as similar English schools which never observe bank holidays il they fall in term. To int-errapi the everyday life of a boarding school is a serious matter, and heads invariably set their faces against it. "Indignant Parent" might hare inquired before he sent his child to such a place if Labour Day was observed. I certainly did not when I sent my boy to King's, and I did not worry when he went off on Monday, as the holidays he gets are quite long enough for all the glorious weather, drowsiness, beaches, etc., he wants or ought to have. Parent. Sir, —This morning (the day after Labour Day) I awoke and at the paper—not drowsily as ."Indignant Parent" did, and discovered his somewhat indignant letter. I would like to draw to his notice the fact that not only the Diocesan Girls' School a.nd both schools of King's College, but also St. Cuthbert's College, which is run on Presbyterian principles, did not dose. Perhaps this will convince him that the Anglican Church did not have quite as much to do with it as he thought. If he is not satisfied, another slight reason might- help him; both the schools of King's College are run by a board of governors. Perhaps it would have been as well if before writing, be had found out that Christ's College and Wanganui Collegiate School and all the other public schools of New Zealand did not close, and then, because be sees only three schools not closing, he jumps to the rash conclusion that snobbery is the only motive in these schools. Indignant Child.
