LABOUR CONFERENCE.
EXTREMISTS SUPPRESSED. RELATIONS WITH SOVIET. A. and N.Z. LONDON. Oct. 14. The moderate clement was kept busy at the Labour Conference at Margate to-day in restraining the Beds from side-tracking their motions. The Reds demanded the cancellation of the Treaty of Versailles, the Dawes Plan and the repudiation of the Treaty of Locarno as aimed against Russia. They also advocated a workers' alliance with the Russian Rods, but they were thwarted by the executive's amendment, which was carried, urging the Ministry to reopen negotiations with M. Krassin, Russian Charge d'Affaires in London, with a view to restoring political and economic relations with the Soviet.
Some excitement was caused by Mr. Bishop, a delegate whose credentials were cancelled because he was a Communist, demanding a hearing- Amid angry cries of " Get out! " " Shove him out," and threats of personal violonce, Mr. Bishop finally quitted tho conference chamber and joined a crowd of spectators in the gallery.
A recent interview between the Russian Charge d'Affaires, Krassin, and the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Sir Austen Chamberlain, with a veiw to obtaining credits for the Soviet was stated to have been fruitless. Sir Austen intimated, as on a previous occasion, that Soviet propaganda, aggravated by Russian support of the striking coalminers, was not calculated to facilitate tho aims of tho Soviet. The Labour Conference carried a resolution urging workers to inform their Governments that they will meet war threats by organised resistance and will refuse to bear arms or produce armaments.
