THE ROYAL SHOW.

Preliminary reports indicate that the Royal Show, to be held at Auckland next month, will be an event worthy of the name it bears. The entries already received are decidedly encouraging, and if, as is expected, more are to come, there should be a display easily beating all records for this centre. This is highly satisfactory so far as Auckland is concerned, but there is still more reason to be gratified that prospects promise so well. This is the first Royal Show Auckland has had. When the society decided on this year's venue, there was considerable opposition, doubt being expressed whether the entries would he received in sufficient numbers. Critics said the Auckland district itself had not the high grade stock to make a display, and South Island breeders would not risk sending valuable animals so far for exhibition. In the circumstances, having obtained the fixture in face of this, it was important that the allocation should be justified. Therefore the excellent entries are most welcome. It is good to find, too, that Auckland is preparing a carnival week to mark the occasion. As the greatest centre of population the city is capable of rising to the occasion in this way as no other place could do. The preparations of business people and others to give visitors a welcome which will long be remembered should do as much as anything else to silence the objectors, to convince them that there is merit in holding the show where most people are to be found. Much as has already been done, there is still time and room to do more, so that the Royal Show of 1026 may set a standard that will extend to the utmost any other centre desiring to excel it.
