SIGNALS AT FRANKTON.
ALTERATIONS IN PROGRESS. The mechanically-operated signals at the northern end of Frankton railway station are in process of being replaced by a semi-automatic system operated by electric motors. The. alterations, which are made necessary by the extension of the shunting yard, involve the installation of 16 motors of approximately one horsepower each. The new method of signalling is expected to make for increased efficiency, as the system is capable of operating signals over a distance of up to ten miles, as against some 300vds. with the old mechanical device. The alterations will include the erection of an overhead bridge carrying six signalling arms to replace those at present in operation.
