SHIP STEWARD'S DEATH.
THE DOCTOR EXONERATED. COMMENT MADE BY CORONER. [by TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT, j ri WELLINGTON", Thursday, The inquest into the circumstances surrounding Mio death of Reginald Deriniston, a second-class steward on the lonic, who died at sea as the result of pneumonia. on September 5, was concluded to-day. The coroner stated that the allegations of negligence, made against Dr. J. C. Brennoia, ship's surgeon/ whoso conduct was under review; had not been proved that .no- jury- would- convict on the evidence, which was too conflicting. In the , coroner's opinion the deceased received every care and attention, from the doctor and made no complaint regarding the treatment and'attention ho was receiving. The coroner stated also that Denniston was taken up on deck, without the permission of the doctor, \y two other stewards. This, although done with the best of intentions, ought not to have been done. But for this it was probable there would have been no cause for the inquiry. , . . , The finding was that the deceased died of double pneumonia and no blame was attachable? ; to'anyone. .. - •. ;■
