STOCKS AND SHARES.

AUCKLAND STOCK EXCHANGE, BETTER BUSINESS DONE. Business was brighter on the Auckland sharemarket yesterday, sales being recorded in most sections. In Government securities War Loan, 1930, sold at £96 10s. In banks there was fair activity, but no business passed. Nationals of New Zealand eased Is to £7 Is 6d without attracting offers. New Zealands were nearer accommodation at 'sls 6d and 60s 9d. Offers for Unions of Australia were steady at £ls, sellers easing slightly to £ls 4s, In coal Taupiris sold at 22s 9d and Waipas at 15s 3d. In gas Aucklands, contributing, were done at 13s, more, being available at that figure, buyers 12s lOd. In shipping Northerns changed hands at 15s. In timber there was sale in Bartholomews at 225. In breweries Staples sold at 37s 6d. In miscellaneous Farmers' Fertiliser were done at 935. In mining Alburnias had sale at 4s Bd, 4s 9d and 4s lOd, Waihis at 19s 3d. and Mount Lyells at 28s and 28s Id. MAIZE IN POVERTY BAY. SHIPMENTS TO AUCKLAND. There has been a slightly improved demand for Poverty Bay maize recently, and a number of parcels have been shipped to Auckland, says tho Poverty Bay Herald. The sales which have been effected during the week have mostly been made at 5s 9d per bushel, but a few of the best quality lines have netted the growers 6s. There aj pears to be some doubt in the minds of merchants whether tho present demand will last.
