BUS STRUCK BY TRAIN.
A VERY NARROW ESCAPE. A narrow escape was experienced fej? the passengers in one of tho Motor Transport Company's buses at a level crossing near Westfield at about 7.35 on Tuesday evening. The bus, which was filled with members of the Devonport Orphans' Club and a number of local artists, was proceeding toward Otahuhu and stopped at the Church Street crossing, near Westfield railway station, to allow a northbound train to pass. The driver was about to continue the journey and had crossed the first set of rails when another train, travelling southward, .struck the vehicle, completely destroying the radiator. The force of tho. impact caused the bus to turn round in the direction the train was proccoding. A few moments elapsed before the passengers realised what had happened, but, fortunately, no one was injured, although several suffered from shock. An eyewitness said that had the bus advanced another yard, the train would have crashed into the middle of it, with a terrible result. At the present time the Church Street crossing is carrying a large amount of traffic owing to road construction on the Great South Road, and the danger is much increased now that .there are two sets of mis. over th,o rq&cl
