LEAGUE FOOTBALLERS.

THE TEAM IN BRITAIN. i ■ ! NEWSPAPER'S STRONG COMMENT. (Received 5.5 p.m.) Sun. LONDON. Oct. 10. The Daily News says the New Zealand League football team is distinctly a third-rate one. The players did not maintain the improvement which they showed in the test match. Their failure in the scrums is nothing when compared with their weakness at the base of the scrummage. The paper says Cole and Webb are negligible in defence and ineffective in attack. In the match with Warrington last Saturday, while Davidson was absent from the field for half an hour, owing to a dislocated thumb, Warrington scored 11 points. Even after Davidson returned Warrington was supreme. Despite his injury Davidson was NewZealand's best player after Gregory. Gardiner's prowess was over-rated. VISIT FROM ENGLAND. AN AUSTRALIAN PROPOSAL. A. and N.Z. BRISBANE. Oct. 11. The Australian Rugby League Control Board has decided to invite an English team to Australia in 1928, or, alternatively, that permission should be sought from the English Rugby League to enable the premier English club to visit Australia next season. It was also decided to send an Australian team to New Zealand next season.
