SINGLE WOMAN'S DEATH.

A VERDICT OF SUICIDE. [BY TEIVEORAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CHRISTCIIURCH, Monday. An inquest was held this evening concerning the death of Ada Mary Ellis, single, aged 51, who was found dead at her residence, 33, Conference Street, yesterday. Evelyn Ada Horwell, married, residing at Sockburn, a cousin of deceased, said she last saw deceased alive on October 1, Deceased's mother died ftvo weeks previously. Deceased was a nurse and had supported her mother for tho past three years, but had come almost to the end of her financial resources. Constable McKcnzio said he found doceased lying on tho hearthrug in front of tho kitchen fireplace. A rubber tube leading from a gaspipe was in her lefthand. There was a note signed by deceased leaving all she had to her sister. The note added:—"God forgive me. My strength is not equal* to the strain. I fear my brain is going." Tho coroner returned a verdict of suicide by asphyxiation from coal gas.
