GISBORNE TRAMWAYS.

POLL FOR ABOLITION. QUESTION OF VALIDITY. [ijV TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] GISBORNE. Monday. The inquiry into the validity of the recent poll at which the ratepayers voted for the discontinuance of the tramway service, was continued, beforo Mr. Lewey, S.M. Mr. W. D. Lysnar represented the petitioners, who alleged irregularities, and Mr. Burnard appeared for the respondents. The days was occupied in legal argument on whether certain formalities were precedent to the taking of the poll or precedent to the obtaining of an Order-m-Council revoking the tramway orders. Decision was reserved. Mr. Lysnar also contended that the poll should have been taken under tho 1926 Local Polls Elections Act, which came into force on September 9, one day before the poll.
