MOTOR-CYCLING ACCIDENT.
DEATH FOLLOWS INJURIES. EVIDENCE AT THE INQUEST. An inquest concerning the death of Adolphus Henrici Valentine, who was fatally injured while driving a motorcycle in Anzac Avenue on October 1, was held before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., coroner, on Saturday. Hugh Glover, a taxi-driver, said he saw deceased riding a motor-cycle down Anzac Avenue at a speed of about 25 miles an hour. Deceased swerved to avoid another vehicle and in doing so skidded on the tram lines. He was thrown from his machine and struck a passing tramcar. The motorman on the tramcar, Thomas Edward Westcott, said he saw the motorcyclist swerve out in front of the tramcar. It was raining at the time and the cyclist skidded in endeavouring to regain his correct side of the road. He crashed into the tramcar before it could be stopped. Evidenco regarding the injuries to deceased was given by Dr. Francis Leonard, house surgeon at the Auckland Hospital. When admitted the injured man was suffering from concussion and shock and head injuries. These were sufficiently severe to cause death. A verdict was returned that deceaseddied from injuries as the result of being thrown from a motor-cycle.
