ST. MARY'S ANNUAL FAIR.
VERY SUCCESSFUL OPENING. The annual fair and sale of work of St. Mary's Cathedral, Parnell, was opened yesterday afternoon by Bishop Kempthorne, Bishop of Polynesia. The fair was particularly well attended and the "mile of shillings" fund for the extinction of the parish debts should greatly benefit. In declaring the fair open Bishop Kemp-t-homo said he had an hereditary connection with Parnell. His grandfather ha<i been one of the first dwellers in that district, and had built his home in 1842 on the site of the present mouth of the Parnell tunnel. The hall is tastefully adorned with palm branches, flags and coloured streamers. In addition to the usual stalls'of plain and fancy needlework there are several art stalls, one containing the work of the girls of the parish. A speciality has been made of articles suitable for Christmas presents.' Other stalls contain produce, sweets and cakes, and the large flower stall is a mass of beautiful blooms. The Girl Guides conduct a novel toy stall in the middle of the hall, which attracts much attention. Last evening music was supplied by A. Morrow's orchestra. The fair will be continued this after : noon and evening, when there will be dancing.
