DEHORNING CALVES.

Calves should bo dehorned, except thoso required for show or stud purposes. The best time to dehorn is beforo the can' is five days old. Clip tho hair from about the baso of tho horns, slightly moisten the end of a stick of caustic potash, and rub the'" tip of each horn for about a quarter of a minute. This should bo done two to four times, at intervals of fivo minutes. If a little blood shows at tho centto of the horn, vory slight further rubbing will bo necessary. Caro should also bo taken to rub tho centre of tho horn, and not tho sides, and not to have it too moist, foi; if it runs on to tho skin a troublesome soro will result. A piece of brown paper should bo wrapped round tho caustic to protect the fingers.
