PREMIUM BONUS SYSTEM.
OPPOSITION AT ADDINGTON
[BY, TELEOUAPH. —OWN f'ORHKSrON DENT. ] CHRISTCHTTRCH, Wednesday.
The Addington Workshops branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants is opposed to the proposal to bring the premium bonus system into operation in the workshops. An official of tho branch says that there aro men there from Britain who have worked under Lhe system and they very strongly urge the branch not to agree to it. " Mr. Spidy, superintendent of workshops, has certainly .made out a good case from tho department's side," said tho official, "but we aro not satisfied. If, for instance, making eight pairs of lyres is a good day's work under present conditions and under tho premium bonus system a man makes 10, ho is paid for nine only, tho department getting tho benefit of tho other one. It is a caso of speeding up without giving tho men tho full benefit of it. I have not heard of anyone being in favour of tho system." /
