TOLL OF THE MOTOR.
VICTORIAN STATISTICS. ACCIDENTS AND CAUSES. A. and N.Z. MELBOURNE. Oct. C. According to a return tabled in the Legislative Assembly the number of accidents in Victoria in which motor vehicles were involved in 1925 was 3491. Of these 3179 occurred in the metropolitan area.
The principal causes of the accidents were: Motorists' negligence, 1754; pedestrians' negligence, 510; motorists on the wrong side of the road, 238; drunken motorists, 71; drunken pedestrians, 52. Altogether 2197 persons were injured, 180 of them fatally.
