A Neapolitan bandit named Dorttenico Oroppo was arrested and confessed that he had- committed 43 murders. Ihe police "find that innocent men aro now in prison in connection with many of itnese ciirncs. Groppo, overtaken by remorse, says he sees his victims threatening him with tortures. Ho begs his gaolers to allow Kim to commit .suicid. j. He has even sent a petition to the Government. asking for the privilege of being the first criminal to bo hanged under the new capital punishment law. The murderer says anything would be better than the torture of remorse. Groppo usually murdered his accomplice to ensure his own safety.
