FISHING AT TAUPO.

Sir, —I was very glad to read Mr. Grace's letter in answer to my own. The information be gives is first-hand and certainly helps one to understand the Government's procedure with regard to the fishing rights of Taupo, at least from his and his tribe's point of view. If I trod too heavily, it was with no intent to wound the Maori's pride of rac«. If I have done so, 1 am sorry, but I am glad my letter has been the means of obtaining information one could not get elsewhere. Can Mr. Grace —I have had the pleasure of meeting him on more than one occasion and hope to do so again before long—give fishermen information on the following points:—Does the £SOOO per annum go to a general fund for the £Ood of th<» whole tribe, or is it given to those with fishing rights, or rather, land round the Like and rivers, according to the siz» of each holding 1 To whom does oni> apply for, say, the use of the huts at the Delta, or at the Log pool, or for, say, the rights to camp at Keretau or Tauranga Taupo ? I notice a letter in your paper regarding the question of firewood outside the chain, or whatever it is, limit. This letter inferred Mr. Grace's tribe would charge for this, or at all events, not be over pleasant about it. I know and am well-known to a good many of Mr. Grace's tribe and feel sure they would not lower themselves to begrudge campers firewood. These are the little things that want clearing up, and perhaps Mr. Grace, without binding himself, will answer on behalf of his tribe. Durham Ranger.
