ENGLISH CRICKET TOUR.

NEW ZEALAND TEAM.

THE QUESTION OF SELECTORS,

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday, In rega-rd to the visit of the New Zealand cricket team to England a matter that is likely to cause some discussion is the number of selectors that should bo appointed to pick the team. Five selectors picked the team which visited Australia last season. They were Messrs. E. R. Caygill, W. R. Patrick (Canterbury), N. C. Snedden (Auckland), W. S. Brice (Wellington), and F. 'Williams (Otago). Six of tho 14 players came from Canterbury. Tho number of selectors is to bo decided at, the annual meeting of delegates to the Cricket Council on October 22. A remit has come from Auckland to the effect that tho selection committee should consist of three, each selector being from a different major association. This will leave one major association without a representative, aud the Auckland Association proposes to get. over this difficulty by taking a ballot to docido in which order the associations shall bo unrepresented in rotation. Tho Canterbury Association has decided to instruct its delegates to voto against the Auckland proposal. There is a feeling in sorno quarters that a selection committee of five is too | large. In fact, somo members of tho [New Zealand Cricket Council are of I opinion" that tho best way would be to leave tho job to one selector, provided a really good man could bo soenred. Arrangements are well in hand lor tho flotation of the company by means of which the tour is to bo financed.. The members of tho Management Committee of the Cricket Council and tho presidents of the four major associations were appointed to the directorate of tho comnajiv. A cablegram was received this wscK from Sir Francis Bell, who is the president of the Wellington Association, agreeing to act on tho directorate. Written authority is now being awaited from tho presidents of tho Otago-Associations.
