RAILWAY DISASTER.
THE MURULLA INQUEST.
UGLY RUMOURS DISCREDITED. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 12.5 a.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 30. At the inquest concerning the cloths of the victims of tho Murulla railway disaster a traffic inspector, Mr. Heerey, confirmed tho statement that a drawbolt on one of the goods trucks had snapped. Tho train crew made this good with a tail ropo, but this rope broko during shunting operations and the trucks rushed down tho incline. After the first break tho repair gang had not been able to get the trucks close enough together to connect the air-pipes for the brakes. In reply to counsel for tho relatives of the deceased, witness said he did not suspect any organisation of having caused any of the recent railway disasters. He had not heard rumours to the effect that minor mishaps had been caused in order to discredit tha Railway Commissioners. Witness also denied a report that a man had been seen interfering with the passengers who were injured in the Murulla wreck.
