ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
The annual meeting 'of the Birkenheadand JNorthcote Tennis Club was" held last evening, the president, Mr. L. S. Maxwell, presiding. The report and balance-sheet, which were adopted, showed the 1925-26 season had been most successful. lii spite oi the heavy drain on the finances caused by the erec- , tiou, at a coat of £791 lGs lid, of the new pavilion on the fine commanding site purchased, the club had been able to discharge all current liabilities and to conclude tiis season with an overdraft well under the maximum limit. However, the membership had fallen from 146 to lf/9. It was hoped this loss would be more than recovered by the introduction <?f new members fefore the opening of the season. The various social activities resulted in £45 more being raised from this source than dxiniig the preceding year. In recognition of their past services, Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Corbett, who now reside at Hamilton, were elected life members. In order to encourage a larger membership it was decided not to charge any en-trance-fee this year for new Birkenhead and JCorthcote members. subscription for local primary school pupils was fixed at 7s (sd, the hours, of play to be restricted as specified by the Match Committee. It was decide-d to' ofien the season on Saturday, October '23, It was decided to eliminate the championship competitions during the ensuing season, in order to foster more games of a sociable character. WAIUKU CLUB'S AFFAIRS. [BY TELEGRAPH. -7OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] • WAIUKU, Thursday. The annual meet ins: of the Waiuku Tennis Club was held last evening, about ,'?0 members were present, and Mr. A. W. M. Ohlson presided. Tho report indicated that, the club's prospects .were good. There was now 73 playing member? and the number was likely to increase. Tho overdraft had. been almost extinguished. The officers elected were:—President;, Mr. Ohlson; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. Forbes and H. B. Armitago; secretary and treasurer, Mr. C. C, Mjinro; executive members. Misses if. Aikle. ' Mciklejohn, and Pleydelt, and Messrs. R. Eade, A. James, tr. Crouch, and G. Arkle; grounds committee, Messrs. Eade. James, and Arkle; match ■ committee. Misses Mciklejohn and Arkle and Mr. Ohlson; auditor, Mr. H. M. Barriball. 1 October 9 was fixed for tho club s official opening ' this season.
