AUCKLAND SOCIETY OF ARTS.

Sir, —That part of your report of the annual meeting of tho Society of Arts referring to the suggested disposal of the property requires a little amplification. Tho building -is unsuited to the society's present requirements and is not likely to return much revenue in its present state. The amount likely to be realised by a sale is, However, insufficient to purchase suitable premises, and as the terms of the trust forbid a mortgage, my suggestion was to sell and allow tho money to accumulate at compound interest until an adequate sum was available, the society meantime renting its quarters! H. E. Vatle.
