DEHORNING DAIRY CALVES.
Tho horn nuisance should be disposed of when the calf is a few days old, and not over one week. To do this, locate the horn button, which can he felt beneath tho akin, and clip the hair away. Moisten the horn button slightly, and with a stick of caustic potash, rub the snot vigorously for about 15 sec. Treat tno other horn in tho same manner, fond then moisten the end of tho stick and give the first horn treated a second treatment of about the same length as tho first. Be careful riot to have either the horn button or the caustic too wet, and do not apply tho caustic to any more surface than is necessary to cover the button thoroughly. The calf must bo kept dry for several days after giving this treatment. The stick of caustic must be heavily wrapped with paper while in use to avoid burning the fingers. While this treatment is not entirely painless to the animal, it is much more humane than removing eithor the horn or the bottom, by rorgerjf.
