SUMS OF MONEY MISSED.
CHARGE AGAINST A YOUTH
The mysterious disappearance of sums of money from letters in private letterboxes at the chief post office, Auckland, has engaged the attention of tho postal authorities fbr two months past. In some cases considerable sums have been missed by large firms. The letters were sometimes sealed np and replaced after postal notes had been. extracted. Sometimes a note was written on the envelope stating it had been opened bv the postal authorities. An arrest was effected on Wednesday and as a result a youth, aged 17, appeared in the Police Court yesterday charged with theft of a postal note for 10s, the property of the PostmasterGeneral. Senior-Detective Hammond said accused had admitted a number of offences and asked for a remand for a week, which was granted. The magistrate, Mr. Hunt, ordered suppression of *the name in the meantime.
