SCHOOL STEEPLECHASES.
RESULTS AT WHANGAREI.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHANGAREI. Thursday. Fields of 119 in tho junior and 211 in the senior divisions took part in the Whangarei High School's steeplechases this afternoon. The junior course had a steep hill excluded and the senior course was somewhat altered, and was followed in the reverse direction compared with former years, so that comparisons of the times with previous school records were of no avail. The junior event was run first; the winner being J. Hoy, whose time, 16m. 55 2-55., was the fastest. T. Pollock was second by a few yards and second fastest. T. Jones, G. Thorpe, T. Harold, L. Robinson, K. Wilson and E. C. Bevington followed within 90s. In the senior event M. Andrews, 3m., won irf 27m. 8 l-ss. from K. Thompson. The pair established the best and next best times. They were followed by W. Mullins and E. Brains by.
KING'S COLLEGE EVENT. The annual cross-country steeplechase, the concluding event of the. King's College sports, will be held at Middlemore to-morrow afternoon. Competitors will start from the college grounds at 2.40 p.m. and will follow a circular course of about six miles, leading back to the starting place. A large gathoring of parents, and friends of the pupils is expected.
