MONEY FOR MAIN ROADS, A PETROL TAX FAVOURED. [BV TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PUIvEKOHE, Thursday. The executive of the Franklin branch of tho Auckland Automobile Association met at Pukekohe labt evening, the president, Dr. C. 11. Wake, presiding. The meeting endowed a resolution from tho Opaheke-Drury-Bunibay-Karaka Ratepavers' Association that tho Highways Board should assume full control of and financial responsibility for main highway reconstruction, the necessary money to be raised by a tax on the petrol used by motor-vehicles. The Franklin County Council intimated that it could not agree to the branch's request that cattle licensed to graze on the roads in tho Aka Aka district should bo not permitted to remain on the roads during the night. It was decided to refer the matter to the general council of the association. Messrs. G. T. Provide, T. Hamilton, H. Curd, and M. S. Campbell were appointed a deputation to the Franklin County Council to suggest that where practicable earth tracks, as summer roads, should be provided alongside metalled carriageways, with a view to sa.ing wear both on cars and on the metal surfaces. The president and Messrs. Curd and Campbell were authorised to arrange the first run for the coming season, December 4 being tentatively suggested as a suitable date. Maioro Beach, Hunua Falls, Orere and Duder's Beach were mentioned as suitable places for a visit thia season.
