Y.W.C.A. AT HOME.
An "At ,Home " was held at the Y.W.C.A. yesterday afternoon, when the president, Mrs. C. W. Garrard, presided for the first time since her election to office. In welcoming those, present Mrs. Garrard sand ffle was pleased to sec so large a gathering. TTie work of the association was always increasing and the strong support of its members was much appreciated. She particularly stressed the need for voluntary workers and appealed for recruits for the various committees. Mrs. G. Wilson gave a brief account r>f every girl's uppeal for hostel and holiday house. The campaign was held from June 1 to June 10 and 90 women took part in the canvass. The result of the campaign, she said, is £13,360. It is hoped to proceed with the building of the hostel quite soon as the plans are completed. These were on view in the hall. *
Miss J. Stevenson gave a brief account of the year's work, thanking those present for their continued interest and financial support. " It- is difficult," she said, " for those not actually participating in the activities of the Y.W.C.A. to fully understand .the scope of its work. The development of every side of a girl's nature, the interpretation of Christianity in terms of a wholesome life of health "and knowledge and friendship and service, the ministry to special needs—homelessness, friendlessness, joblessness, carelessness—along a hundred different lines make a whole too complex to. be fully 'grasped unless one can live fairly close to it." Miss Stevenson also outlined the programme for the ..coming year. During the afternoon songs were contributed by Mrs. Pascoe and tea was served.
