RIVAL WIVES' CLAIMS.
A DISTRACTED BIGAMIST.; An alleged bigamist namsd Nordstern, who was recently awaiting, trial at Cherbourg, France,, has made the discovery that to him whose love affairs may lead him into indiscretions even gaol does not afford a safe retreat where , the women cease from troubling and the wicked are at rest. Some time ago ; it is., alleged, Nordstern, who. was married to a woman in Cherbourg, migrated alone, to Alsace, where he forged a death certificate of his first, wife, in order to marry an Obernai woman. * ' ■
When Nordstern returned to. Cherbourg he was charged with-bigamy. Meanwhile ho was receiving in his cell letters from his Cherbourg wife and from the Obernai woman, both of whom apparently still •loved him and.were pressing their rival claims upon him. This threw Nordstern into such fits of depression that,the prison authorities placed him under observation.
