BANKRUPT'S DEALINGS.

" A RACECOURSE TIPSTER." COURT REFUSES DISCHARGE. PROPERTY TRANSACTIONS. A humorous defence to the allegation that he was a racecourse tipster was made by John Black, agent (Mr. Biernacki), whose application for discharge from bankruptcy was refused by Mr. Justice Herdraan in the Supreme Court yesterday. His Honor: I see he was a racecourse tipster. How much did he make at that ? Mr. Biernacki: Not very much, sir. Counsel said bankrupt had nine children, who were being well looked after and given a good education. His Honor: Yes, but they are not realisable assets. (Laughter.) A. .W. Blanchard stated he had lent money to bankrupt upon a representation that he owned certain sections, which it was found were not his property. Mrs. Kitchen, an elderly woman, stated she paid £3OO to bankrupt for land at Point Chevalier, and found later that he did not have a title to the land, and she had to pay another £3OO to get possession. Mr. Biernacki: You have not lost on the transaction.—Witness: 1 lost £3OO. (Laughter.) Mr. Biernacki: But the value of the 'and has increased since you bought it in 1914? : His Honor: That does not whitewash the bankrupt. t Bankrupt denied that ho was a racecourse tipster. " A man used to pay me £lO a day to tell him what he must not do," he said, " but I did not give him tips." (Laughter.) Mr. Biernacki said the man was a foreigner, and most of his trouble was due to muddling. He pleaded that for the sake of his children bankrupt should be given consideration. His Honor: I cannot see my way to grant the order. Mr. Biernacki: Well, could Your Honor state a time when Ave could apply again ? His Honor: I do not think I could advise you on that point, either. There is evidence of some deception, and the debt is £2950.
