TRADE IN JAPAN.
AMERICA LOSING GROUND. HOW THE BUSINESS CHANGES. TOKIO, Aug. 14. American firms in Japan are fast losing trade to their Japanese rivals, according to statistics just published in the Osaka Mainioni. Of the entire business dona with America by Japan, eight Japanese firms do 79.8 per cent., while the eighteen American firms in Japan do the remaining 20.2 per cent. European business, however, remains to the extent of nearly one-half, in the hands of eleven European firms. The strongest foreign firms in Japan to-day are Dutch, French and British. During the past three years a number of big American companies have turned oyer their agencies to Japanese firms and withdrawn from Japan.
