COLLEGE OF SURGEONS.
SCHEME FOR DOMINIONS. PRELIMINARY STEPS TAKEN. A., and N.Z. SYDNEY. Aug. 26 A convention of medical men representing all the States in the Commonwealth and also New Zealand is at present sitting in Sydney. It is considering a scheme for the establishment of an Australian and New Zealand college of surgeons, The proposed college will advance the study of science and art of surgery, establish laboratories and journals and elevate the practice of surgery in hospitals and in private The convention will arrange the details of the scheme in readiness for the Australian and New Zealand Medical Congress, which is to meet at Dunedin next year, and which will inaugurate the college. The convention has selected from 120 volunteers 40 men who will be asked to found tho college. All are prominent surgeons in Australia or New Zealand. At present four Colleges of Surgeons exist—the Royal Colleges of England, Edinburgh and Ireland and the American College. Ttie propounders of the scheme to establish a fifth college in the Antipodes hope that before long it will so clearly have demonstrated its usefulness tsat a Royal charter will be issued to it.
