SULPHUR SPRAYS.
In Bulletin No. 116, issued by the New York Agricultural. Experiment Station, an account is given of experiments conducted by R. W. Thatcher and L. R. Streeter on the adhesion to foliage of the sulphur in various fungicidal dry dusts and liquid sprays. Apple foliage was treated with sulphur dusts and limesulphur sprays and determinations were made of the percentage of sulphur remaining. During the course of the first week after treatment, 89 to 94 per cent, of the sulphur applied as dust was lost from the leaves; in the same time, the loss of ' sulphur derived from lime-sulphur spray was from 45 to 75 per cent. Addition of ■- calcium caseinate to the spray fluid slightly reduced this loss. After this rapid mechanical loss during the first days, the decrease in the amount of sulphur adhering proceeded slowly and fairly regularly. The larger loss of sul- ! phur from the dust application is attriI buted to the large size of the particles : as compared with those derived from the : decomposition of the polysulphides of lime-sulphur.
