HENDERSON VALLEY ROAD.

Sir,—The work at Fern dale now being undertaken by the Waitemata County Council is not, as Mr. Phillips presumes, a spring-to-action stunt as the result of his letter of tho 18th. The matter of widening tho road, not as. a danger spot, but to prevent the accumulation of water, was brought before the chairman,' engineer, and riding member of the County Council at the conclusion of a meeting of the Henderson Valley Ratepayers and Settlers' Association on July 3. The widening of the metal on the culvert, etc., has also been dealt with. The Valley Association, whose policy is the creation of a true community spirit as affecting our social life and community needs, realising tho strength of unity; seeks to act as tho voice for ratepayers, therefore, Mr. Phillips' letters, in tone and matter, have met with strong disapproval by tho Hendetson Valley ratepayers. It is not necessary to slang a public body—the Waitemata County Council—in general terms, as Mr. Phillips has done, give flattery to a riding member, or cry danger in order to remedy small matters. J. TV Handby. Hon. Sec.
