SYDNEY'S NEW AQUARIUM.

*>• '• ADJUNCT OF THE ZOO. * i " ONE OR TWO > SHARKS." . [from our own correspondent. ] SYDNEY, Aug. 19. n It is hoped to have ready for the pub? lie in a few months' time,- at the zoo at Taronga Park, an aquarium unrivalled in any other part of the world for its collection and for the beauty of its setting. It will cost about £20,000. The aquarium, it is believed, will house even one or two sharks. It will be Taronga's wonderland, and is being constructed in the form of a big cave, made by covering a gully with artificial rock formation from the ceilings of which artificiallyformed stalactities will hang. The entrance to the aquarium will be through a profusion of palms and ferns. In the middle of the cave and extending the whole distance of it, will be a chain of ponds for the big fish, while the smaller specimens of the finny tribe will be housed in tanks. The view of the tanks and of the big fish disporting them? selves in the ponds will be from elevated platforms, which will be an». eminently safe place for the public if one or two sharks are to be included among the monsters .of the deep. It is- estimated that the aquarium wilrhccommodate about 5000 people at the ong. time. The fact that the main salt water pool alone measures 80ft, by 60ft, Will givo sonic idea of the elaborate lines along which the aquarium is to be built.
