The annual meeting of shareholders of the Whangarei Co-operative Dairy Comr pany was held yesterday. Mr. 11. Walker, of >Kamo, who has held the position of chairman of directors since the inception of the company 19 years ago, was re-appointed to the position. Mr. E. S. Tremaine, of Rua- . tangata, was elected vice-chairman. The chairman said the increased realisation for butter above the values placed in the balance-sheet was equivalent to id per lb. butter-fat over . the whole season, which would bring the* total payment to Is 6.96 d* or practically practically Is 7d per lb. As faras was known it represented the highest payment made to suppliers of butter for the year just-ended in New Zealand. It was regrettable that the average grade of butter was slightly lower than that of tho previous year and the board appealed to suppliers to use every endeavour to improve the standard, cf cream. It was also regretted that there hatl been a falling off in the number of cows tested. Mr. R. Keay asked if the company :j was still purchasing butter boxes from Sweden or using the local article. The chairman said they had bought a large quantity from Sweden last year : when the local price- was prohibitive, j but they had arranged to use local boxes ;j when the Swedish supply ran out. There had been a difference of 4d per box in favour of the Swedish article | when tho Swedish boxes were ordered, j Messrs. W. Crawford and A. Clarke were re-elected directors. After hearing Mr. J. Brake on a proposal to start rennet making on a scale j in New Zealand to meet the Dominion's : .requirements, the directors were asked i to inquire fnlly into the suggestion. With a view to future consideration by tho shareholders. '
