The annual meeting of delegates constituting the electoral committee of the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board was held to-day. Mr. D. Jones presided. In an address the chairman said he knew of no system of electing a body such as themselves belter than the existing one. It gave what was an invaluable opportunity for consultation between 'representatives of farmers and the board, securing the best results in the interests of all. r ' . He referred to the serious effect of the strike in holding up the supplies of meat from New Zealand and Australia, so increasing the prices in Britain and seriously affecting consumption. The result was that when New Zealand meat began to arrive at Home it met a considerable quantity of last season's and large quantities o*f Australian arriving late. Mr. J. Carr raised the question of the mode of election of the board. He said ho had been advised by the branch of the Farmers' Union that it considered the ward system of voting' to be the best, method, since at present it was felt they were not in direct touch with the board and that board members' were so few in number that it was difficult to get information: ' , To an inquiry by Mr. C. K. Wilson, of Piopio, Mr. J. Fraser said the proportion of second-class lambs to the total killed was just on 29 per cent. On the motion of Mr. J. Trotter, it was decided to recommend the board to revise the present system of lamb grading, which was- considered unsatisfactory. Mr. A. Thomson moved, and it was carried, that instructions be given that members of the board visit the different districts in order to keep the farmers in touch with affairs. Messrs, T. A: Duncan and A; Hamilton, M.P., the retiring members, were reelected.; .
