RATEPAYERS AT THAMES.
SANITARY DRAINAGE WORK. further loan not favoured. [PY TELEGRAPH.—-OWN CORRESPONDENT.] THAMES,- Thursday, The annual meeting of Thames Katepayers" Association was held last evening, Mr. Muir presiding. Tho chairman said the association nowhad nearly 200 members. The first activity, upon the association's formation, a year ago, had been to seek information in regard to the Waiotahi quarry, but little satisfaction had been obtained. It was a pity in the light of present-day conditions that the £SOOO loan had been carr ried last year. •_ In reply to a question, Mi\ Muir indicated that the association was not in favour of a further 4oan for sanitary drainage. The original estimate had been £92,000. Of this amount £BI,OOO had been spent and there were still other areas to be covered. He thought the people had been misled in regard to the several loan schemes. The council had no more hope now of earning £3OOO from the borough endowment at Te Aroha than it had five years ago. The sanitary drainage scheme had been promised at a rate of 4d in the pound. House connections bad been promised at between £lB and £3O, and they were now costing nearly £SO in many cases. The election of officers resulted as folMr. Muir; committee, Messrs. Bryan, Fearn, Cropp, L. Dodd. Clarke, Gleeson, Adamson, Djjrwell, Thomas and Burr; secretary, Mr. W. McDuflL .
