BREACHES OF THE BY-LAWS.

NUMEROUS FINES IMPOSED.

The weekly batch of motorists appeared in the Police Court yesterday for breaches of traffic by-laws. 1 In connection:with a charge of failing to; secure a heavy' traffic license, preferred against Robert G. Ferguson,motor-bus ;proprietor, the chief traffic inspector, Mr,. G. R. Hogati. said defendant had ; '■previously \been fined £lO for a similar' offence, and'the, amount:was reduced ;,to ,£5; after a rehearing had been granted. Defendant. had three vehicles on the road, and his negligence was serious, in that, he was competing against men who bad paid for their licenses; The magistrate. Mr. Hunt,' imposed a fine of £lO, and costs, and stated he woukl grant no fur ther rehearing. Dangerous driving resulted in Harold W. Bennett, Daniel B. Patterson arid Laurie Gwilliam being fined each £3;; with costs, Jack Cliilderhurst £2 with' costs, and Albert J. Bailey, Acland W. Thomas ;tnd William I'liomas Bastin each £1 w.th co'.ts. For negligent driving Rhys E.' McEenzie: v.'a-s fined £1 with costs. Riding a motor-cycle along f'ernuera Road-at miles an hour through moderate traffic cost Venus Astrciia £3 with costs. * 1 .
