STOWAWAY CHARGED.
GOOD CONDUCT ON VOYAGE. When three hours out of Southampton on July 16. a stowaway was discovered on the steamer Corinthic, which arrived a) Auckland on Monday evening. There was a ■ sequel... in the Police Court yesterday when Arnold Bradbury. aged 26, pleaded guilty to stowing-away, on the vessel. It xv as stated th a t a con sed had sign i fied hi» willingness to work on the voyage, and there, y/e.re no complaints about his behaviour. F. C. Cross, chief officer.;.of the vessel, stated accused applied to him for a job a short'time before the vessel left: Southampton. but there were no vacancies. However, accused showed up again 'when pprt, had .been . cleared. Witness added that accused's conduct had been excellent.' Accused said his possesions consisted <>i the suit of clothes he stood up,in and another ;pair of-tronsers on the vessel The magistrate. Mr. l.'oynton, remanded accused for;,a week in the care ,of the Salvation Army, in order that, lie might be examined by the port health ofluer.
