RUGBY FOOTBALL.

AUCKLAND TOURING TEAM. DEFEAT OF WAIRARAPA. FOURTEEN POINTS TO THREE. [BY TET.EGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] MASTERTON. Wednesday. Wairarapa were to-day beaten by the Auckland touring team by 14 points to 3. The weather was overcast, and the ground very heavy. The visitors were much stronger in the forwards than the home team and gained possession of the ball from 90 per cent, of the lir.eouts and set scrums. Their weight and height gave them an unassailable advantage. The Auckland backs were far superior, but they we re comparatively starved by their forwards, who preferred to go on their own. Had thfc backs been fed there is no doubt that the Northerners would have piled on a -big score. The game started disastrously for Wairarapa, u penalty goal and converted try going to Auckland in the first five minutes. After that, however, the zame settled down to a drab exhibition, brightened only by occasional combined rushes by Wairarapa and crisp work cf the Auckland backs. Resolute tackling by the green backs anvtii them many points. Tries were scored for the winners by Cammick. Batty and McWilliams. Butler converting one and kicking a penalty goal, li. Booth scored a great unconverted try for Wairarapa. / '.
