QUEEN CARNIVAL SCHEME.

PRELIMINARY ARRANGEMENTS.

The first steps toward the launching of the Grand Military Pageant, to bo held in Auckland next January, and the Queen Carnival next October, wera taken by the Auckland Regiment ait 3 special "meeting this week. The First Battalion has been divided into groups for the purpose of widespread organisation, and a central committee has been formed to deal with the work as a whole.

The purpose of the pageant is threefold—to augment the funds of the Auckland Military . Sports Association, to establish regimental funds for the provision of recreational training and sports equipment, and to assist the territorial and senior cadet bands of Auckland. The campaign will give a groat amount of interesting work and entertainment to the men of the regiment, who are asked to help headquarters ,in the prosecution of the schema. In addition the campaign will enable the public to assist in the work of an organisation looking toward the. development of the youth of the city. One of the first efforts will be a carnival in the Drill Hall during the first week in October, when the regimental queen, Miss BottirU Edwards, will make her first appearance in that capacity.
