TAKAPUNA AFFAIRS.
SPEED LIMIT IN BOROUGH.
The Takapuna Botough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. J. D. MoriBon, presiding. A letter was received from the Bayswater Belmont Progressive Association stating that the association was opposed ■to works, other than the'laying of concrete roads, being done by day labour, arjd urging the council to adopt the contract system. It was decided to inform the association that wherever possible the council was using the contract system. The Public Services Committee recommended that the speed limit, in the borough should be fixed at 25 miles an hour, and not more than eight miles ari hour past schools. It was decided to delete the reference to the speed past schools and tc refer the remainder of the recommendation back to the committee The committee also recommended that the by-laws regarding bathing costumes should be strictly adhered to, and thai the Milford Surf Club should be notified to this effect. The recommendation was adopted. The Legal and Finance Committee recommended that the subsidy of £IOO provided on the Estimates should be paid to the funds of the Municipal Band The committee also recommended that the town clerk should take . over the administration of the band finances without liability for any antecedent har openings. The recommendations were adopted. , * Advice was received from the Assistant .Under-Secretary of the - Public Works Department that it was proposed to ap point Mr. W,, F. Short a commissioner t:> investigate matters in connection with ■Sheriff's' Bridge.
