HOURS OF LABOUR.
TEST CASE COMMENCED. ALL AUSTRALIA CONCERNED. Australian,. and N.Z.' Cable Association; (Reed. 11.35' p.m.) MELBOTJRKE, Aiig. 21. The full Commonwealth Arbitration Court has commenced the hearing of a test case which will decide the hours to be worked throughout the Commonwealth. The case is nominally ono between the Amalgamated Engineering Union and the Aldordice and Company Proprietary, Limited. The former claims a 44-hours week for its members. Through the intervention of the Commonwealth Attorney-General, Mr. J. G. Latham, advocates representing all the industries and employees throughout Australia are also taking part. The case is expected to last. several months. The decision reached will be a basis for the working week in all the other industries.
