SMOKING IN GARAGES.
Sir,—l ask permission to draw attention to a very dangerous practice, which I have twice experienced, in the hope that steps will be taken to prevent what might be attended with serious results. I refer to smoking in garages. Yesterday afternoon I was one of 11 passengers in a motor-bus which ran into a garage for benzine. Our driver was smoking when we entered the garage. Two others were smoking in the garage when w e entered. This continued while benzine was run from bowser to bus oil tank. At the same time a service tank was discharging benzine into an underground tank. The driver of the service tank was standing by his discharge pipe also smoking. In my opinion all'smoking on buses sliould be prohibited, Notices are exhibited forbidding smoking, but drivers say one can "smoke at the roar of the bus. I maintain smoking is dangerous anywhere on a bus as benzine fumes are inflammable. 1 hope this practice will be put down before a serious mishap occurs. Traveller.
