OUTBREAKS OF FIRE.

RESIDENCE DESTROYED. BRIGADE ALREADY" ENGAGED. ART COLLECTION DAMAGED. [by telegraph.— press association.] INVERCARGILL. Friday. Two alarms of firo in different parts of the town were given practically simultaneously this morning. The brigade had hardly left the station to attend to a dangerous hedge fire when a call was received to a more serious break in a residence owned by Mr. Charles Gilbertson. Practically the full brigade left for the first outbreak, and only two men were available to manipulate the engine and hoses for the second.

Mr. Gilbertson's residence, which was insured for £750, was destroyed. A collection of Italian ware, Turkish tapestries and carpets and other objects of art, valued at £ISOO, was also badly damaged by fire and water. A portion was saved. The origin of the fire is unknown. TRUCK BURSTS INTO FLAMES. DRIVER'S FOOT CRUSHED. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] 5 OTOROHANGA, Friday. A motor-truck owned and driven by Mr. W. Braccwell back-firod when going down a steep hill, on the way to Mr. B. Budden's farm at Honikiwi, and was practically destroyed by fire. Mr. Bracewell jumped to a bank at the side of the road, but the back wheel of the truck went over his foot, crushing it badly. Mr. Bass, who accompanied him, escaped unhurt. Two tons of manure on the lorry were rendered practically worths less.

The engine had been turned off, and almost without warning the truck burst into flame.
