POINT CHEVALIER PARK.
BUYING ADJOINING AREA. •COUNCIL MAKES AN OFFERThere is need of a house at Point Chevalier Park for the accommodation of the caretaker and recently the Parks Committee of the City Council approved plans for a suitable building. Following that the Mayor, Mr. G. Ball don, submitted a proposal to the committee that instead of erecting a house the council should buy the property of Mr. T. H. Lenehan adjoining the park. Mr. Lenehan's property, which has s four-roomed dwelling on it, has an area of over two acres, with a frontage of 66ft, to Bella Vista Road and 10ft. to Point Chevalier Road. It was valued for 1 the purposes of rating at £920 and was let at 27s 6d a week. The city valuer valued the property at £IO2O. The Parks Committee recommended to ■ tiie council on Thursday evening that: Mr. Lenehan should be offered £IO2O for the property, cutting off the piece, as a garden. It was further recommended that failing satisfactory terms being arrived at, the land should bo taken under the Public Works Act. The recommendation was adopted.
