BILLIARDS.
AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP. COMMENCEMENT ON MONDAY, The annaal amateur championship for the Billiards, Ltd. Shield commences at the showrooms of Messrs. Billiards, Ltd., on Monday evening. Among the 14 entrants are all the best local players, with the exception of H, F. Valentine, the holder of the shield, who has not nominated on account of sickness. This is unfortunate i'or him as the New Zaaland billiard chiimpionship follows the provincial championship, and ho would no doubt have been very hard to beat for both titles. Thoro should bo some very good games played in the tourney, as several of the playsrs have shown very goocl form at practice, The opening guma will ba between R Freda to vich ailel K. Tate.
